Carvoeiro lies between some of the finest examples of this coastline’s beautiful limestone cliffs. The many bars and restaurants on the square make it a lovely spot in which to sit down and enjoy a drink whilst continuing to enjoy views of the beach. There are many restaurants to choose from, offering international or typical Portuguese cuisine.
Carvoeiro is also a favorite golfing destination and there are a number of courses to choose from in the surroundings. The nearest are the two 18-hole Gramacho and Vale da Pinta courses.
The city of Silves and its ancient Castle is well worth visiting as also the town of Lagos, Ferragudo or Portimão.
Carvoeiro is backed by mountains. The Serra de Monchique is a rolling mountain range separating the Algarve from the neighboring Alentejo district. Its slopes are made up of deciduous oaks and chestnut woods and it’s one of the few areas of Portugal that shows off dazzling autumn colors.
THINGS TO DO
In and around Carvoeiro there are so many things to do. If you fancy exploring the area, take the car and drive through the beautiful scenery to Monchique in the mountains, or to the historic towns of Silves and Caldas. If you like sports, you can play golf, rent a bike or go scuba diving with one of the three scuba centres. But of course you can relax all day at the beach and go for a swim. There are many picturesque and beautiful beaches nearby.
The children can enjoy a day in one of the theme parks nearby. They will love the Zoo Marine Park (dolphins, killer whales, sea lions) it is only 30 minute drive.
Slide and Splash Water Park, Crazy World all within a 15-minute drive.
